*International Nestlé-Free Week runs from 28 October to 3 November *
International Nestlé-Free Week is a time for people who boycott Nestlé over
the way it pushes baby milk to do more to promote the boycott - and for
those who don't boycott to give it a go.
We hope new boycotters will keep it up once the week is over and they have
realised life is possible without Nestlé!
Here's a roundup of some of the highlights of the week so far.
*#CSVForum*
By coincidence, Nestlé held its Creating Shared Value Global Forum in
Colombia on 28 October, providing a great opportunity to raise concerns
about its marketing of baby milk on the Twitter hashtag for the event:
#CSVForum
Tweets from campaign supporters appeared amongst the top Tweets. Pictures
exposing Nestlé's aggressive marketing of breastmilk substitutes appeared
amongst the top images.
You can find out more about the success of the Twitter campaign and
reflections on the true meaning of Nestlé's CSV initiative at:

*What Nestlé says and what Nestlé does*
Over 4,000 people have downloaded Baby Milk Action's new poster examining a
selection of Nestlé labels from around the world, with examples from
Afghanistan to Venezuela pictured.
Nestlé says it "firmly believes that breastfeeding is the best way to feed
a baby and is strongly committed to its protection and promotion" and
claims to abide by the baby milk marketing requirements.
Yet as people can see for themselves, it promotes its formula with claims
such as it "protects" babies and provides a "natural start".
What Nestlé says and what Nestlé does are different things.
You can send an email to Nestlé calling on it to remove the claims from
labels and follow the rules - and download the poster if you haven't done
so already - at:
http://info.babymilkaction.org/emailnestle
Notice that the poster has a QR code on it so that when you pin it up
somewhere people with smartphones can easily access Baby Milk Action's
Nestlé-Free Zone page and send the link to their friends.
Funnily enough, Nestlé and Google have chosen today to release the new
Android KitKat operating system. This provides another opportunity to share
the great cartoon from Joy of Tech. You will find a link to it and some of
the media coverage from when Android KitKat was announced in September at:

*Nestlé-Free Halloween*
Over 600 people downloaded our Nestlé-Free Zone poster yesterday for
displaying in their homes, workplaces and windows during Halloween.
If Halloween took place where you are and you used it as an opportunity to
spread the word about the Nestlé boycott, please let us know. You can post
pictures to the Facebook event page at:
https://www.facebook.com/events/696292573733941/
It's not too late to sign up to the event on Facebook and invite your
friends if you have not done so already.
*The boycott continues*
Nestlé-Free Week is a time to raise the profile of the boycott and bring
more people to the campaign.
When the week is over, we need to keep up the pressure on Nestlé to abide
by the World Health Assembly marketing requirements - that's all we ask:
follow the rules adopted by the world's highest health policy setting body.
So please do email Nestlé if you have not done so already. Past email
campaigns have prompted Nestlé to drop practices such as claiming its
formula is "The new 'Gold Standard' in infant nutrition".

There are other campaign actions being planned so if you have been
forwarded this email and wish to be added to the email list to be kept
updated, please email mikebrady at babymilkaction.org with "subscribe" as the
subject.
If you received the email from me and would like to be removed from the
list, please reply with "delete" as the subject.
Enjoy the rest of Nestlé-Free Week - and please keep on boycotting and
spreading the word once it is over.
