Dear partners and all,
Following the tragic explosion of ammunition in a military camp in the
city of Brazzaville on March 4, 2012, which caused over 200 deaths
and nearly 1,500 injured so far (official data from the Government),
the, situation is quite tragic for hundreds of women and children
burned by the explosions.
Hospitals in the capital are overwhelmed, and drugs and the medical
basic equipment lack with thousands of homeless (more than 5,000
people) who sleep in churches and public places. Patients are
sometimes on the floor and others share the bed at 3 or 4, a situation
due to a weak national health system. Many children are missing and
others are orphaned.
This message is to inform you that we are currently organizing
ourselves to contribute to the emergency assistance efforts to women
and children victims of the deadly explosions this Sunday, especially
with regard to access to health care and psychological support.
Although the Government has appealed for international assistance, we
are organizing to provide psychological and health care support to
women and children burned and injured.
In the coming days, we will inform you of the assessment made on site
and our actions.
This message may already be considered a call to action. If you would
like more information, please contact us by email at
info at azurdev.org or call us at +242 06 656 61 89 (French only on
the phone) .
Best regards,
--
