Following up on your feedback and support, PHM has signed on to the letter
of support to the LDC groups requesting WTO for an extension of the TRIPS
transition.

Sundar

In October, Chad on behalf of the LDC Group submitted a request to the WTO
TRIPS Council seeking an extension of the LDC transition period, for as
long as a country remains a LDC *AND* an additional period of 12 years as a
country graduates from its LDC status to ensure smooth transition. The
request IP/C/W/668 is available at
https://docs.wto.org/dol2fe/Pages/SS/directdoc.aspx?filename=q:/IP/C/W668.pdf&Open=True

Article 66.1 of the TRIPS Agreement accorded LDC Members of the WTO an
initial ten-year transition period, with an automatic right of further
extensions, that grants LDCs exemption from implementing most TRIPS
obligations in view of the special needs and requirements of the LDC
Members, including their economic, financial and administrative constraints
and their need for flexibility to create a viable technological base.

This transition period is especially important, given the significant
development challenges facing LDCs, in terms of access to knowledge, access
to medical products and devices, access to climate technologies etc.
