Dear friends and comrades at PHM

We would appreciate if you might share the invitation to this online
discussion event, organized by the parliament members of the German party
Die Linke (The Left), with participation of *Dr. Abhay Shukla*, Public
health physician and activist of *the People’s Health Movement* (Profit
driven health services harm people’s health: consequences of the
privatization of health services in India):

*Financial Investors as saviors?*

*How funds and private equity change health services in development
countries and Germany*

Online discussion

Wednesday, November 25th, 2020, 2–4 p.m. CET

Furtherer details in the attached document.

Financial investors are rapidly taking over hospitals and other health
facilities in Germany and on a global scale. State development banks (DFIs)
also support this development on an international level. For instance, the
German investment and development bank DEG holds shares in 19 international
health funds, which are often located in offshore financial centers, such
as Mauritius and the Cayman Islands.

The COVID-19 pandemic reveals that a functioning public health system
accessible for all people, is essential

– in industrialized countries as well as in the global South. In this
webinar, we wish to critically discuss the increasing role of funds and
private equity in the health sector on three levels:

- Why do development banks like the DEG foster this developement in
development and emerging economies, and what does this trend imply for
marginalized groups of the population in these countries?

- How does the privatization of health care impact the doctors, patients
and the health system in India?

- In which ways does the rise of private equity funds change the German
health system?

In solidarity

Dieter
