PHM’s report on the 67th World Health Assembly (19-24 May, 2014) is now
available at:
http://www.ghwatch.org/who-watch/wha67.
The report provides, for each agenda item:
- Links to the official documents prepared for (and during) the
Assembly, including the final resolutions;
- PHM background, analysis and commentary on each agenda item;
- Links to statements delivered by various civil society organisations,
including PHM with Medicus Mundi International;
- Semi verbatim reports of the debate at the Assembly, prepared by the
WHO Watch team.
WHO Watch is a project of PHM, in association with Medicus Mundi
International, Third World Network, and a number of other participating
organisations.
The objectives of WHO Watch include:
- Linking the global and the local: sharing with community activists
what is happening at the global level
- Building links among activists (global and local) who are working on
particular issues
- Working to strengthen the leadership role of WHO in global health
- Holding ministers of health accountable: (i) for how they implement
WHO decisions; (ii) for how they speak at the WHA; (iii) for how they
fulfil their ‘duty of care’ for WHO.
Health activists are warmly invited to disseminate any of the materials
linked from the above URL to other activist networks who are following any
of the various issues. Activists are also warmly invited to stoke the
local policy dialogue around health issues using the materials linked
above.
Some of the highlights from the debate at the Assembly include:
- Further discussion of WHO Reform
- Communicable disease (TB, Vaccines, Hepatitis, Polio)
- Anti-microbial resistance
- NCDs
- Maternal and young child nutrition
- Newborn health
- Violence, in particular against women and girls
- Disability
- Autism
- Palliative care
- MDGs and Global goals post 2015
- Medicines: research and innovation, regulation, access, traditional
- Human resources for health

Reports on all of these items are provided at the WHO Watch website, linked
above.
PHM aims to have a presence at the meetings of WHO’s Regional Committees
where many of these issues will be reviewed later in the year:
