PHM – Sri Lanka highly supports the campaign of Breast Feeding. It is a
right of the child and the mother. PHM Sri Lanka declared it as a social
responsibility. Society should protect that right and should make a
supportive environment towards this.**

· Mainly the Sri Lankan supportive groups should focus on two factors:-
* *At present, the WHO, UNICEF and the Sri Lanka Health
authorities advocate to the mothers to breast feed their babies exclusively
for six months. However, working mothers do not get maternity leave for a
period of 06 months. Hence, **

Granting of six months maternity leave should be demanded.
**

· At the moment, after the second child, the mothers do not get full
maternity leave i.e. not even 03 months. This is a violation of rights of
the mothers and children. We should take the leadership to stop this
discrimination. Breast feeding is a right of every child and mother.
Hence, we would like to appeal from Health Organizations, Right-based

· Groups and Women’s organizations to take these matters seriously
and give a leadership to the rights of mothers and children. SIRIMAL
