*Major report launch, global events on the noncommunicable diseases epidemic

*27-29 April, Moscow *

Three major global health events on the noncommunicable diseases (NCDs)
epidemic are taking place at the World Trade Centre in Moscow during 27-29
April 2011. World Health Organization Director-General Dr Margaret Chan and
representatives from more than 150 governments, including approximately 100
ministers of health, and leaders of civil society, business and other
sectors will be attending the activities.

    - 27 April: Launch of the first WHO Global Status Report on
      Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), providing new information on
the extent of
      the epidemics of heart and lung diseases, cancers, diabetes and
other NCDs
      on global and national levels, and the actions needed to prevent
and control
      NCDs.

    - 27 April: staging of the first WHO Global Forum: Addressing the
      challenge of noncommunicable diseases, which is being held 27 April and
      attracting over 250 global leaders of civil society, private sector,
      government, UN, health and academia to outline actions needed
the respond to
      the NCDs epidemic.

      - 28-29 April: staging of the First Global Ministerial Conference on
      Healthy Lifestyles and Noncommunicable Disease Control
(co-organised by the
      Russian Ministry of Health and WHO), which is attracting around 100
      Ministers of Health and 150 government delegations from around the world,
      along with the WHO Director-General and other global leaders. Multiple
      plenary and thematic discussions on the drivers of and responses
to the NCDs
      epidemic will be held. The 29 April closing will be marked by
the issuing of
      a Declaration on NCDs.

These events are cornerstones of the historic drive ongoing in 2011 dealing

Diseases.
