 *Call for applications for Co-ordinator - Designate Health Action
International Asia – Pacific (HAIAP)*

Applications are invited from nationals of a country in the Asia Pacific
region for the post of Co-ordinator - Designate, Health Action International
Asia – Pacific, (HAIAP), Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The major responsibility of the Co-ordiantor - Designate will be to assist
Dr K Balasubramaniam the Advisor and Co-ordinator in the following:

*Project Management*

   - Plan, implement and monitor project activities as described in the
   project proposal;
   - Adapt the proposed budget to a working budget once funding has been
   secured;
   - Ensure that project funds are used exclusively for the purpose of the
   project as described in the project proposal;
   - Prepare periodic funding reports and ensure the timely reporting to
   donors;
   - Authorize payments relating to the project;

*Project Development*

   - Prepare global project proposals in collaboration with other HAI
   regional Co-ordinators;
   - Prepare regional project proposals and submit to potential funding
   agencies for co-financing;
   - Keep abreast of new issues and areas of concern and incorporate into
   programme area;

*Network Development and Capacity Building*

   - Identify major areas of concern in the area of health and
   pharmaceuticals, and develop focus and direction of the network ;
   - Maintain regular communication and contact with members;
   - Keep track of members not involved in the network and develop plans to
   systematically involve them actively in the network;
   - Organize meetings, seminars, conferences and the other training
   activities
   - Attend HAI International Steering Group meetings;
   - Attend HAI Regional Co-ordinators meetings,
   - Formulate, develop and implement international campaigns



*Office Management*

   - Recruit and supervise project staff  with due consideration to the
   level of funding obtained;
   - Authorize payments for office expenditure;
   - Ensure the upkeep of office procedures;



*Advocacy*

   - Attend and speak at meetings as required and lobby decision-makers;
   - Develop and oversee HAI-Asia Pacific’s representation at national,
   regional and international fora;




*Advisory*

   - Undertake desk and field research on issues of importance to the
   Asia-Pacific region and the network;
   - Formulate policies for HAI Asia-Pacific and HAI International;
   - Represent HAI AP at national, regional and international fora;
   - Assist, advice and support members in developing their policy /
   campaigning capacity on health and pharmaceutical issues;
   - Provide advisory services on request to other institutions, based on
   research carried out.



*The following is the minimum Qualification*

   - Degree in one of the health sciences or social sciences preferably with
   postgraduate degree from an accredited institution

*Desirable additional qualifications*

   - Work experience/specialized studies/ training in medicines policies,
   access to medicines, rational use of medicine and pharmaceuticals services
   for a period of 10 years.
   - Previous NGO experience
   - Excellent understanding of the socio-economic conditions in the Asia
   Pacific
   - Good understanding of the specific health needs of marginalized,
   vulnerable and the poor
   - Good presentation skills
   - IT skills. Demonstrated ability to use a computer and utilize software
   programme such as Microsoft office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Salary will negotiable.

The successful candidate will be given a contract for two years, and, on
satisfactory performance will be promoted as Regional Co-ordinator of HAIAP
to take over from Dr K Balasubramaniam the present Advisor and
Co-ordinator.    A work permit will be obtained for expatriate staff.
