COMUNICADO EMITIDO DESDE DIVERSOS PAÍSES DE AMÉRICA LATINA Y EL MUNDO

Con sentimientos de dolor, indignación y tristeza, las organizaciones y
personas que hacemos parte del Movimiento para la Salud de los Pueblos, en
Latinoamérica y el mundo, lanzamos un llamado urgente a movilizarnos
alrededor de la vida y la integridad de las comunidades y pueblos
originarios del sur de Colombia, en el Valle del Cauca, al tiempo que
denunciamos ante la comunidad internacional los actos criminales del
Gobierno del presidente Álvaro Uribe.

Desde principios de octubre, el Gobierno colombiano despliega, en territorio
ancestral indígena vallecaucano, un operativo de fuerzas militares y
policiales, a fin de arremeter contra los participantes de la Minga de
Resistencia Indígena y Popular. Como producto de estas acciones represivas,
más otras emprendidas a lo largo del año, se registran 22 víctimas mortales
y varias docenas de heridos.

La Minga de Resistencia Indígena y Popular fue convocada por la Organización
Nacional Indígena de Colombia (ONIC), para resistir al objetivo
gubernamental de expropiar a los pueblos originarios de sus territorios
ancestrales y entregarlos a corporaciones transnacionales extractivistas. El
clima de persecución y criminalización de la protesta social ha sido
constante desde inicios de año, con acciones que incluyen desplazamientos
forzados, incursiones violentas, secuestros, desapariciones, torturas y
asesinatos, realizados por el Gobierno uribista y bandas paramilitares.

Ante esta situación emergente, convocamos a las organizaciones sociales
fraternas del mundo a:

1.      Romper el cerco mediático montado alrededor de estos hechos de
sangre por los medios masivos afines al Gobierno de Uribe y al capital
transnacional, y activar los medios de comunicación a nuestro alcance, para
dar a conocer a la opinión pública mundial estos crímenes silenciados.

2.      Denunciar y condenar estas acciones criminales en los diferentes
espacios sociales de todos los continentes.

3.      Realizar acciones de protesta ante las representaciones del Gobierno
colombiano.

4.      Exigir que los Gobiernos progresistas de América Latina y el mundo
se pronuncien y  repudien la conducta genocida de la administración
militarista de Álvaro Uribe.

5.      Exigir que la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU), la
Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA), la Unión de Naciones
Suramericanas (UNASUR), la Comunidad Andina , la Comunidad Europea y otros
organismos internacionales, envíen  misiones de observación al lugar de los
hechos, y cumplan de esta manera con su obligación de proteger la vida,
seguridad y derechos de los pueblos de Colombia.

6.      Demandar la investigación de los hechos por parte de una comisión
internacional de alta fiabilidad y el establecimiento de responsabilidades.

*call for international action to protect the lives of indigenous people in
the south of Colombia*

THIS COMMUNICATION IS SENT FROM A DIVERSE GROUP OF PEOPLE FROM LATIN AMERICA
AND THE WORLD

 With feelings of pain, indignation and sadness, the organisations and
individuals who make part of the International People's Health Movement in
Latin
America and the World are making an urgent call for the mobilization of
support
for the lives and integrity of the original communities and people from the
south of Colombia in the Cauca Valley by denouncing, before the
international
community, the criminal acts committed by the Government of President Álvaro
Uribe.

Since the beginning of October, the Colombian Government has deployed
military
and police forces into the ancestral indigenous territories of the Cauca
Valley to confront representatives of the 'Minga de Resisencia Indigena y
Popular' (The Movement for Indigenous and Popular Resistance). More than 22
deaths and several dozen wounded have been registered over the course of
this year as a result of state-sponsored violence.

The Movement for Indigenous and Popular Resistance was assembled by the
National Indigenous Organisation of Colombia (ONIC) to resist government
objectives of expropriating traditional ancestral lands in order to allow
the growth of
productions by multinational companies seeking further natural resources.
This
region has been thrown into a climate of persecution and criminalization of
social protest with actions that have included violent incursions,
abductions, forced migration, torture and murders, all carried out by the
Uribe Government and paramilitary groups.

We call social organizations from around the world to:

1.      To use the communication networks available to use to promote
awareness of
this situation and activate public opinion about these crimes which have so
far
been guarded.

2.      Denounce and condemn these criminal actions in our social spaces
within all
continents.

3.      Denounce and condemn these actions in front of representatives from
the
Colombian Government.

4.      Make a call for statements on this matter by progressive Latin
American
Governments.

5.      Call for the United Nations, The Organisation of the American States
, The National Union of South America, the Andean Community, the European
Union and other international organizations to investigate these events and
thus comply with their obligations of protecting the lives, security and
rights of the
people of Colombia .

6.      Demand the investigation of these events by a dependable
international
commission and the establishment of responsibilities by the international
community.
