PHM Participation at Forum 10, Cairo: 29th October 2006 to 2nd November 2006

Every year PHM members and partners participate in the Annual Forum of the Global Forum for Health Research to share their evidence, enthusiasm and advocacy for the concerns of the Peoples charter for Health and the Social determinants. This year is no exception  and its very likely that the PHM inputs in Forum 10 at Cairo from 29th Oct  to 2nd November will be a good one.

As of 15th Sept the following information is already available on the events and initiatives.

 

  1.. A special double plenary session entitled 'The Social Vaccine - challenges and opportunities' will take place on 30th October from 16.15 to 17.45 hrs. It will be Co-Chaired by Ravi Narayan (Outgoing PHM global Coordinator) and Tessa Richards Assistant Editor of BMJ. It will have Fran Baum - (WHO  Commissioner on Social Determinants of Health, and PHM  Australia); Arturo Quizhpe ( PHM-Latin America)  and Hani Serag ( incoming global coordinator, PHM Egypt) as panelists and respondents apart  from Huda Zurayk (Lebanon) Vikram Patel ( India-LSHTM) and Betty Kwagala(Uganda) Dave McCoy ( GHW-! And WHO advocacy circle convenor) will rapporteur the session. The charter is one of the strongest  proponents of Social policy action as Social Vaccines. We hope many of you will attend this session, if you are forum participants and contribute actively from the floor 
  2.. On 31st October between 18.00 and 19.30 hrs there is a special session on Research Priorities for School of Public Health with a focus on the Global South facilitated by Ravi Narayan (PHM) also a Global Forum Foundation Council member. There will be participation by researchers  including PHM linked ones from Southern Schools of Public Health. Also IPHU,PHFI ,COHRED, Global Fora and regional forum. If you want  to attend do  let us know ( ravi at phmovement.org) 
  3.. David Sanders (South Africa) is presenting a proposal of Primary Health Care Research (Details in next communication) 
  4.. Dave McCoy is speaking on Global Health Watch and some advocacy issues arising out of this initiative (Details in next communication) 
  5.. The PHM has a Stall in the marketplace where PHM materials on PHM/PHA2 /International Peoples Health University / Global Health Watch  will be available  for distribution.
If any of you are participating in the Forum and are linked to PHM in your own country please let us know.

b)      What session you are participating in (Chair, Panelist, respondent) with details of paper.

c)      You may use the stall to display or distribute literature on health/PHM from your country. Inform us if you want to do so.

d)      You may want to attend the plenary or special session - so let us know in advance especially if you want to share something.

e)      Any other ideas, suggestions, linkages.

We shall send an update of all the additional responses/links on 1st October, and 20th October 2006 respectively.
