PHA-Exchange> Oxfam report on Public Health risks in US -Thailand FTA

Dear colleagues,

 

I am forwarding you a new report published by Oxfam entitled “Public Health
at Risk, A US Free Trade Agreement could threaten access to medicines in
Thailand.” 

 

The report raises concerns about the effect of proposed strict intellectual
property rules in the US-Thailand FTA on access to medicines and public
health. It also highlights the fact that patent rules come into conflict
with the enjoyment of human rights, including the right to health. Moreover,
it refers to the Communication sent by the Special Rapporteur on the Right
to Health to the government of Thailand following letters sent by Thai civil
society and the recommendations made by the Committee on the Rights of the
Child raising concerns about the impact of FTA rules on access to medicines
(see pages 20-22).
