We cannot relent on Dr Shrest's condition. I urge all of you to write new letters to Amnesty, HR Watch, Nepalese embassies and the media.

As many of us may already be aware that Mathura Prasad Shrestha, a well known PHM activist in Nepal was arrested in early January from his home. The PHM too issued a statement demanding his immediate release. Three months on he still languishes in a prison cell in the Maharajgunj Police Training Centre, by the orders of the 'king' Gyanendra. While the agitation inside Nepal against the monarchy, the monarchy clearly refuses to budge from its position, which it enjoys at the expense of the country's economy, freedom, democratic values, and transparency.
