The US concluded a Free Trade Agreement with Peru on
Wednesday 7 December 2005 (see below). 

This will have huge implications for health care in Peru, as the deal most
probably has "TRIPS-plus" intellectual property rules that will affect
access to affordable medicines and the realization of the right to health in
Peru.

As the text is not publicly available we do not yet know the full extent of
these "TRIPS-plus" rules.

The US is still negotiating FTAs with Ecuador and Colombia, Thailand and the
countries of the Southern African Customs Union (Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia,
South Africa and Swaziland).
