Greetings PHM Friends,

Around the world activists are urging governments to ratify and
implement the first global health treaty, formally known as the World
Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC).
With 79 ratifications to date, public health and corporate
accountability advocates have made tremendous progress toward ensuring
the global tobacco treaty's life-saving impact.

This week, activists in more than 20 countries will organize events as
part of the 7th International Week of Resistance to Tobacco
Transnationals (IWR2005) organized by the Network for Accountability of
Tobacco Transnationals (NATT). This week's events coincide with the
International Release of the Global Tobacco Treaty Action Guide:
Protecting National Health Policies from International Tobacco Industry
Interference <http://www.stopcorporateabuse.org> , produced by Corporate
Accountability International and NATT.

The Global Tobacco Treaty Action Guide is a collection of case studies
on how tobacco transnationals like Philip Morris/Altria, British
American Tobacco and Japan Tobacco International are attempting to
interfere with health policy, and what public health and corporate
accountability advocates are doing to expose and challenge this
interference. Drawing on first-hand stories from allies in Nigeria,
Thailand, Mexico, Guatemala and many other countries, the Global Tobacco
Treaty Action Guide will help to inform campaigning and to bolster work
toward ratification and implementation of the global tobacco treaty.

As we approach the early November date by which countries need to ratify
to participate as Parties in the first Conference of Parties, now is a
critical time to expose and challenge tobacco industry attempts to stall
ratification and implementation. We invite you to join IWR2005 by
organizing an event in your country. For more information please contact
