On June 6, Dr. Ahmad Maslamani, Director of the Health Work Committees
(http://www.hwc-pal.org/), was arrested by Israeli security forces in
his home in Jerusalem. Up to this day, he remains under detention, with
not a single charge having been formulated against him.

We request you to show your solidarity with Dr. Maslamani and join the
campaign to obtain his freedom.

You can:


     1. Sign a petition letter and send it to national and international
        authorities, so that they can exert pressure on the Israeli
        authorities to release Dr. Maslamani
        
     2. Send a solidarity message to the Health Work Committees, at

Petition letter demanding the release of Palestinian Dr. Ahmad Maslamani


Sir, Madam:

Last June 6, Dr. Ahmad Maslamani was arrested by the Israeli occupation
authority at his home in Jerusalem, Beit Hanina. Special forces entered
his home after midnight and arrested him brutally in front of his
children as if he was a criminal.

When he was brought before the court on June 8, no charges were filed
and he was to be brought back on the 12th. When he was brought to court
again, the same scenario was followed. He was brought back to his
isolation cell without hearing any charges and without any chance to
defend himself. Nobody knows how long he will be treated like this.

We believe that ill-treating Dr. Maslamani like this is a serious
matter. Dr. Maslamani is the general director of one of the biggest
Palestinian NGOs, the Health Work Committees (HWC) and a member of the
coordination committee of the Palestinian NGO network (PNGO). He is well
known for his efforts to establish a quality health care system that is
accessible to all. He has devoted his whole life to HWC's programs for
health promotion and community health. 

Dr. Maslamani is a staunch advocate of the people's right to health, a
right which is continuously under threat in the Occupied Palestinian
Territories. His arrest is yet another example of the Israeli
authorities disrespect for the people's right to health. The Palestinian
people now have to make do without the expertise of Dr. Maslamani in the
programs he was managing.

We are very concerned about the difficulties the Palestinian communities
are faced with because of Dr. Maslamani's arrest and we urge you to use
any influence you have with the Israeli authorities to advocate his
immediate release.
