Dear Andy,
We logged on a bit late so may have missed important statements. However, what we did see/listen to was most unimpressive. Although language is a constraint, Mocumbi too was unimpressive. And the contender from the Cook Islands came across as pompous and pedantic.
Why were the other contenders (esp. Frenk and Piot )not participating ?
Regards,
David Sanders.

PS.:
Below are the questions that I and Mickey Chopra submitted. Unfortunately, only the one on human resources was read out, but not really responded to by the honourable gentlemen.

Questions

All the candidates have expressed a desire to reduce the social and economic inequalities that mark the current phase of globalisation. There is considerable evidence that growing unfair trade practices are underlying much of this. What do you feel should be the role of WHO vis a vis the powerful states (i.e. the G8) and key international institutions (such as the World Bank, IMF, WTO etc) in addressing the broader macro-economic determinants of health? What concrete strategies would you suggest?

Many health systems, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa, have been considerable weakened in the current period. A key weaknesses has been the human resource component especially as a result of migration out of the sector and also to the richer countries – who have benefited considerable from this export. What do you consider the role of WHO to be in tackling this problem?
