Movement in Benin (PHM Benin) launched on Saturday, September 14, 2019 in
Cotonou a Mini-IPHU on the theme: Culture, Health and Intersectionality.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><br></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span lang="EN-US">The learning began with a
minute of silence for Professor David Sanders, a tribute
and the presentation of his books <i>The Struggle for Health</i> and <i>Questioning
the solution</i>.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span lang="EN-US"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span lang="EN-US">Twenty-two (22) people took
part in this People's Health University, which aims to educate and mobilize
young activists to advocate for better engagement (rhetoric, institutional,
implementation, etc.) of policy-makers on economic, social and cultural rights.
The mini-IPHU is part of the series launched by PHM Benin in 2018 to promote
the Human Rights-Based Approach to programming as a strategy to tackle
inequalities.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span lang="EN-US"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span lang="EN-US">Health being linked to
culture, habits and customs, religion, beliefs, the manipulation of the public
opinion by the media and other<b><i> influencers</i></b>, the manipulation of <b><i>influencers</i></b>
by political and economic powers, cultural heritage, the role of community
health workers are all factors to be taken into account in public policies
developing and implementing processes.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">La section béninoise de People’s Health Movement (PHM Bénin) a lancé le
samedi 14 septembre 2019 à Cotonou une Mini-IPHU sur le thème : Culture,
Santé et Intersectionnalité.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">Le mini-IPHU a démarré par une minute de silence en mémoire du
professeur David Sanders suivi d’un hommage puis de la présentation de ses
ouvrages <i>La Lutte pour la Santé</i> et <i>Remettre en cause la solution.</i></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><i><br></i></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">Vingt deux (22) personnes ont pris part à cette Université populaire
sur la santé qui vise à éduquer et mobiliser les jeunes activistes sur le
concept en vue d’un plaidoyer pour un meilleur engagement (rhétorique,
institutionnel, mise en œuvre, etc.) des décideurs et une prise en compte des
droits économiques, sociaux et culturels dans les politiques publiques. Elle
est la suite de la série lancée par PHM Bénin en 2018 visant à promouvoir l’adoption
de l’Approche basée sur les droits humains dans toutes les politiques comme
stratégie de lutte contre les inégalités. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;text-align:justify;line-height:normal;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">L’intérêt de cette mini-IPHU est que la santé est
liée à la culture. La coutume, la religion, les croyances, la manipulation du
public par les médias et autres <b><i>influenceurs</i></b>, la manipulation des médias
par les forces économiques et politiques, l’héritage culturel, le rôle des
agents de santé communautaires sont autant de facteurs à prendre en compte dans
les processus d’élaboration et de mise en œuvre des politiques publiques.</p>
