<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU">The People’s
Health Movement (PHM) is facing a shortfall in funding. We hope that you may be
able to help. <br></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU"><br></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU">PHM is a
global network bringing together grassroots health activists, civil society
organizations and academic institutions from around the world, particularly
from low and middle income countries. It currently has a presence in around 70
countries.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU"><br></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU">The <a href="http://www.phmovement.org/en/resources/charters/peopleshealth?destination=home" target="_blank">People’s
Charter for Health</a> sets out the vision and philosophy of PHM. <br></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU"><br></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU">“Equity,
ecologically</span><span style="font-family:"Cambria Math","serif"" lang="EN-AU">‐</span><span lang="EN-AU">sustainable development and peace are at the heart of our vision of a
better world </span><span style="font-family:"Cambria Math","serif"" lang="EN-AU">‐</span><span lang="EN-AU"> a world in which a healthy life for all is a reality; a world that
respects, appreciates and celebrates all life and diversity; a world that
enables the flowering of people's talents and abilities to enrich each other; a
world in which people's voices guide the decisions that shape our lives. There
are more than enough resources to achieve this vision.” </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU"><br></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU">“Health is
a social, economic and political issue and above all a fundamental human right.
Inequality, poverty, exploitation, violence and injustice are at the root of
ill</span><span style="font-family:"Cambria Math","serif"" lang="EN-AU">‐</span><span lang="EN-AU">health and the deaths of poor and marginalised people. ‘Health for All’
means that powerful interests have to be challenged, that neoliberal
globalisation must be opposed, and that political and economic priorities have
to be drastically changed.” </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU"><br></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU">PHM
comprises country circles, regional coalitions and affiliated global networks.
Many of the PHM activities are undertaken at the country level, organizing
around a wide variety of issues from health insurance to extractive industries.
At the global level PHM works through four main programs, all of which are
directly related to strengthening country circles: (i) Global Health Watch;
(ii) the International People’s Health University; (iii) WHO Watch; and (iv)
the Health for All Campaign. There is much more about these programs on PHM’s

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU"><br></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU">PHM depends
overwhelmingly on volunteers but it does have a small global secretariat and
its global programs and communications do have costs. For example, some of the
recurrent costs would include website maintenance (USD500 / month),
translations of core communication into French, Spanish and Arabic
(approximately USD 1.000 / month), core costs for maintaining production of
Global Health Watch (USD 1,500/month) etc. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU"><br></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU">For such
costs PHM depends on sympathetic funding agencies but following the global
financial crisis the flow of support has slowed significantly. (For obvious
reasons PHM is a bit selective in terms of the funders from whom it is willing
to ask for support.)</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU"><br></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU">Please
