Lay health workers (LHW) should ideally be supported by the community. The past history teaches us something else: communities do not support them, once the NGO or the Government withdraw and/or incentives wither.
WHO is now re-encouraging LHW, in the frame of reviving PHC. However nobody in WHO or other institutions of 'experts' produces a single experience of local community sustaining its own LHW, on a long term , with mutual satisfaction.
A true,single experience,please.

Massimo Serventi
Paediatrician
30 years of work in Africa
Khartoum
