It is clear that by supporting the Global Fund so generously, Gates is reducing the pressure for intellectual property (IP) reform arising from the damage done by Big Pharma to the perceived legitimacy of the current global IP regime through its position on access to essential medicines.

Clearly Microsoft, like Big Pharma, has a powerful interest in tight intellectual property laws (including TRIPS / TRIPS +).<span>  </span>Is it just coincidence that Gates support of the Global Fund takes off some of the pressure for reform of the global IP regime at this time?
