<br>Resources for Health in order to share experiences, launch a Global Action<br>Plan and build a global movement to ensure that every person in every<br>village everywhere has access to a skilled, motivated and supported health

<br>worker."<br><br>Dr Omaswa refers to the first Global Forum on Human Resources for Health,<br>to be held in Kampala, Uganda, on 2-7 March 2008 (details below).<br><br>This conference is a remarkable and unique opportunity to bring together

<br>all those who are working to meet the needs of health workers in<br>developing countries - whether our focus is on Skills, Equipment,<br>Information, Structural support, Medicines, Incentives, and/or<br>Communication facilities. Together we can "plan and build a global

movement to ensure that every person in every village everywhere has access to a skilled, motivated and supported health worker". It is also an opportunity for HIFA2015 and CHILD2015 members to meet up.

We have put in an application to present the HIFA2015 campaign and to help facilitate discussion on the information and learning needs of primary and district health workers. I shall keep you informed of progress.

<br><br><br>FIRST GLOBAL FORUM ON HUMAN RESOURCES FOR HEALTH<br>KAMPALA, 2 - 7 MARCH 2008<br><br>The Global Health Workforce Alliance will convene the first-ever Global<br>Forum on Human Resources for Health from 2-7 March 2008 in Kampala,

<br>Uganda. As Africa is the worst affected by the health workforce crisis, it<br>is a demonstration of commitment and solidarity that the first Forum will<br>be organized in Africa.<br><br>Forum Objectives<br><br>The Forum has three main objectives

<br><br>1. To build consensus on accelerating Human Resources for Health (HRH)<br>action<br><br>2. To build implementation capacity on HRH action at a global and country<br>level<br><br>3. To build networks and alliances as a global movement on HRH moving from

<br>recognition to concrete action.<br><br>Expected Outcomes<br><br>1. Commitment to a Global Action Plan for the coming decade<br>2. Better knowledge on what works, what has not, and why<br>3. Enhanced and strengthened implementation capacity

<br>4. A consolidated and revitalized global movement.<br><br>Activities<br><br>Pre-conference Activities, March 2-3<br><br>This includes activities customized for various groups - GHWA Board<br>meeting; GHWA Taskforce & Working Group meetings; constituency meetings;

<br>regional meetings and tourist expeditions.<br><br>HRH Action Conference, March 4-5<br><br>The HRH Action Conference will comprise a series of topical keynote<br>addresses, thematic panel discussions and related parallel breakout

<br>sessions. The themes include Leadership; Financing; Management, Migration<br>and Retention; Education and Training; Partnerships and the Global Action<br>Plan.<br><br>Post conference Activities and Site visits, March 6-7

<br><br>These provide an opportunity to participate in a rich selection of skill<br>building workshops. These workshops will target country and development<br>partner operational level staff and will cover a broad spectrum of health

<br>workforce issues. Constituencies will be welcome to organize focused issue<br>meetings. Participants will also have the option of site visits to local<br>health facilities. Those who are interested can use this time to explore

<br>local tourist attractions.<br><br>Multi-day non-stop activities, all week<br><br>There will be a number of on-going activities throughout the Forum period.<br>These include: HRH capacity market place; poster presentation, photo

<br>exhibition, health workers' voice booth, mini library on national health<br>workforce strategy and master plans, and a crafts & arts market.<br><br>***Call for papers: Prospective participants who have experience to share
