Dear all,

I am reaching out to request your support for Indonesian health activists
in their fight against proposed amendments to Indonesia's Patent Act. The
amendments would have serious implications, including extending patent
terms beyond 20 years, expanding exclusive patent rights to cover methods,
and erasing the compulsory licensing mechanism.

Please consider having your affiliated organization sign the letter below
and help spread the word.

Warm regards,
Dian

The proposed amendments to Indonesia's Patent Act threaten to roll back
important proviions that promote public health principles. The amendments
would extend patent monopolies on essential medicines, restrict access to
affordable treatments, and worsen the public health crisis in the country.
These changes would disproportionately impact people in need of life-saving
drugs for diseases like HIV, tuberculosis, cancer, and other
non-communicable diseases.

The proposed removal of key safeguards against secondary patents will allow
pharmaceutical companies to prolong their monopolies on medicines, delaying
the entry of affordable generics and driving up costs for the public and
the national healthcare system. If passed, these amendments could limit
Indonesia’s ability to provide critical treatments and undermine its
international commitments to public health.

We need everyone's support! Stand with activists across the world to urge
the Indonesian government to reconsider these amendments and uphold the
right to health for all Indonesians.
