Dear Friends and Comrades,

COVID-19 not only showed the need to develop and provide preventive
measures such as vaccines but also highlighted the need to support local
development and manufacture of diagnostics and treatments. The piecemeal
treatment of the TRIPS waiver proposal is not sufficient to respond to the
COVID-19-related issues faced, particularly in developing countries. As we
draw closer to the timeline to review the waiver proposal, it is imperative
to understand the landscape in which the LMI countries are operating.

Continuing the work on pandemics and public health—access to vaccines,
diagnostics, and medicines—Sama is organising a *webinar* on *the 17th*
 from

*3.45 pm-5 pm IST* on "*Relooking local production and R&D: Why the TRIPS
waiver is still relevant**"* and how it is necessary for developing
countries to continue pushing on this to foster local production.

The *speaker* for the *webinar *is *Dr.Fifa A. Rahman, *a Principal
Consultant for Matahari Global Solutions, a consultancy group working on
the delivery of global health solutions with local relevance. She is the
CSO representative for the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator
(ACT-Accelerator), attending meetings with principals of global health
agencies involved in the global response to COVID-19, and participating in
a wide range of CSO consultations to encapsulate key issues and concerns
into decision-making on COVID-19 diagnostics, therapeutics, vaccines, and
health systems.

As you are aware, the Sama Resource Group for Women & Health has initiated
a series of conversations in the past on pandemics and public health;
conducted research on the gender gap in vaccination; developed an
intersectional feminist framework on pandemics and beyond; and published an
approach paper on access to medicines and intellectual property.  *Prior to
the Webinar, Sama is planning to disseminate these knowledge resources
online on the same day from 2.15 pm -3.30 pm where we will share our
experiences and about the framework.*

COVID-19 no solo mostró la necesidad de desarrollar y proporcionar medidas
preventivas como vacunas, sino que también destacó la necesidad de apoyar

La COVID-19 a non seulement démontré la nécessité de mettre au point et de
fournir des mesures préventives comme des vaccins, mais elle a aussi mis en
lumière la nécessité de soutenir le développement et la fabrication de
diagnostics et de traitements à l’échelle locale. Le traitement
fragmentaire de la proposition de dérogation aux ADPIC n’est pas suffisant
pour répondre aux problèmes liés à la COVID-19, en particulier dans les
pays en développement. À mesure que nous approchons de l’échéance de
l’examen de la proposition de dérogation, il est impératif de comprendre le
contexte dans lequel les pays d’IMT évoluent.

Poursuivant les travaux sur les pandémies et la santé publique — l’accès
aux vaccins, aux diagnostics et aux médicaments — Sama organise un
webinaire le *17 de 15h45 à 17h00 (IST*) sur "*Relooking local production
and R&D :** Why the TRIPS waiver is still relevant"* et comment il est
nécessaire pour les pays en dévelopement de continuer à faire pression pour
encourager la production locale.

Le conférencier du webinaire est le Dr Fifa A. Rahman, consultante
principale pour Matahari Global Solutions, un groupe de consultation qui
travaille à la prestation de solutions de santé mondiale ayant une
pertinence locale. Elle est la représentante des ASC pour l’accélérateur
d’outils d’accès à la COVID-19 (ACT-Accelerator), et elle participe à des
réunions avec des dirigeants d’organismes de santé mondiaux qui participent
à la réponse mondiale à la COVID-19.19, et participer à une vaste gamme de
consultations des OSC pour résumer les enjeux et les préoccupations clés
dans la prise de décisions sur le diagnostic de la COVID-19, les produits
thérapeutiques, les vaccins et les systèmes de santé.

Comme vous le savez, le Sama Resource Group for Women & Health a lancé par
