Dear Friends and Comrades

People’s Health Movement (PHM) and the Third World Network (TWN) are
accepting applications for an International People’s Health University
(IPHU) on "The Struggle for Health and Access to Covid-19 Medical
Products”. This is an advanced level course aimed at professionals and
activists already working on or having knowledge of the issues of
intellectual property and access to medicines and medical products.

The online course with two sessions every week (Wednesday and Saturday) is
spread over a period of four weeks starting September 3.

The course will discuss issues related to access to Covid-19 medical
products and the larger political economy of health. In particular, the
course will provide an overview of currently approved COVID-19 health
technologies and examine whether the scientific and medical developments
reflect the needs of developing countries. The course will examine the 17
June decision of the WTO on the TRIPS Waiver proposal and its implications
for access in the developing world. The course will also review the scope
of TRIPS flexibilities available at country level for governments and CSOs
to use to overcome IP barriers and highlight those areas where
flexibilities are still evolving or being understood such as in the case of
trade secrets.
