Almost a year and half ago, ESCR-Net members came together to publish a Global
Call to Action in Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic,

a just response to the pandemic that centers the well being of our
communities and our planet.

 Unfortunately, a year and half later,  we are witnessing and experiencing
how this global health emergency continues to deepen inequalities and
intensify global injustices.

 However, our members along with our movement allies, continue to elevate
our voices in asserting our fundamental right to health and demanding an
end the corporate capture of our healthcare systems (check out our comic!

In April, we appealed to UN Special Procedures Mandate Holders to take urgent
action

to secure universal and equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines resulting in
the issuing of 44 letters to states and pharmaceuticals.

Currently,
our members and allies are working on multiple strands of legal advocacy to
bring human rights accountability for discriminatory global vaccine
inequity and prolongation of the pandemic, and just brought an appeal to
the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD)

 Collectively we continue to make strides in demanding that the World Trade
Organization and its members stop blocking the necessary TRIPS Waiver on
COVID-19 vaccines and other therapies.

In just a couple weeks the WTO is scheduled to hold it’s 12th Ministerial
Conference, the highest decision making body of the WTO, where we expect
they will continue with business as usual, ignoring the dire demands for
health justice. However, our communities refuse to have their fundamental
rights to life and health be robbed by an institution that puts profits
before people!

We will  amplify the voices of our communities in Colombia, Palestine,
South Africa, India, Thailand, Honduras, Kenya, Pakistan, Uganda, Mexico,
and elsewhere who have been most affected by the inequalities exacerbated
by the WTO. Legal experts, human rights activists, and public health
advocates also will lay out various advocacy actions undertaken by several
international coalitions.
