More than 250,000 children a year are thought to die due to poor-quality or
outright fake medicines, according to an article in the American Journal of
Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. The article quoted Dr Michael Deats, WHO's
group lead of Substandard and Falsified Medical Products, urging
international efforts to ensure that global policies on bad drugs make a
difference on the ground.
