*PHM Monthly Meeting January 2019*

This meeting was held on 20.01.2019.Participants included the former
Minister and currently Member of Parliament .

This meeting focused basically on the inclusion of health rights in the
Sri Lankan Constitution. Although there had been some progress in the
continued efforts, the draft prepared by the Constitutional Committee in
September 2018 had not included the PHM request in full. Therein,
essential parts had been dropped to the displeasure of the members and what
has been included seemed an escape from the responsibility while proving
space for privatization efforts.

As such, the discussions in this meeting focused on future action regarding
this issue. Following decisions were taken to continue this struggle:

- To present the issue in the Parliament of Sri Lanka as a personal
proposal the special guest, Parliamentarian and PHM member agreed to
proceed with this.

- The Head, Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine,
University of Colombo agreed to find information on privatization of health
services.

- Agreed to hold a meeting involving all political parties to
discuss about the right to health to make them aware and to include in the
Constitution.

- A former epidemiologist member agreed to conduct a study on army
health issues.

Sirimal Peiris made participants aware about contributing to PHM General
Body to cover up at least part of the over expenses incurred during the PHA
4.
