PEOPLE´S HEALTH MOVEMENT LATINAMERICA(MSPLA)
POSITION PAPER AGAINST THE CLIMATE OFREPRESSION, MURDERS AND HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS BY THE GOVERNMENT OF NICARAGUA.
THE GOVERNMENT IS PRESIDED BY THEORTEGA-MURILLO COUPLE.
SPECIAL EMPHASIS ADDED BEFORE THE EXPULSIONOF OUR COMPAÑERA ANA QUIRÓS VIQUEZ DEPORTED IN AN ARBITRARY WAY.
PHM Latinamerica (MSP LA)expresses its deep concern about the events that occurred to our brothers andsisters in Nicaragua since April of this year, and were triggered by an anti-popularpension reform presented by the government. The event became the trigger of a social outbreak in the face of previousabuse of power by the spouses Ortega Murillo. Since then, more than 300 are dead, thousands of people injured, hundreds are arbitrarily detained, without access to due process; tens ofthousands are in exile.
This situation has ledmany historical social organizations, among others, the Information Center andHealth Advisory Services - CISAS – to demand a process of dialogue. Dialogueshould enable the construction of a minimum agenda of understanding and put anend to the abuses, to the bloodshed of our brothers and sisters who sufferrepression, abuse and death every day.
One of the historical voices has been our compañera AnaQuirós Víquez. Ana was first part of acitizen mobilization on April 18th. She suffered physical aggressions, injuries in the head and fractured ofher right hand. This aggression did not stopour compañera to continue in her struggle, searching for dialogue andnegotiation. Her courageous approach hasbrought her as a consequence, deportation from Nicaragua on Tuesday, November27th. Through an arbitrarydecision, the Government of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo expelled her onthe grounds of her “two nationalities” (Costa Rican and Nicaraguan). An unjustified ban for entering Nicaragua forthe next 5 years was also proposed.
PHM Latinamerica (MSPLA) CONDEMNS:
1. The situation of repression and impunity that started on April by theOrtega-Murillo regime and affects our brothers and sisters in Nicaragua.
2. The criminalization of social protest, calling it a coup or externalaggression, thus denying the setting up of a process of dialogue andnegotiation to end the bloodshed and human rights´ violations.
PARTICULARLY WE REPUDIATE:
-The arbitrary and arrogant expulsion of our compañera ANA QUIRÓS,violating her rights, especially her political rights.
-The decision to cancel the legal status of CISAS, an organization thathas been a cornerstone in the path towards the Right to Health in Nicaragua andCentral America. Having CISAS accounts frozenand their property confiscated by the Nicaraguan State is an arbitraryaggression and portrays intolerance and criminalization of social protest bythe regime. This action shows the regimedestroying the root of an important social organization and setting adisastrous precedent for the rest of organizations that disagree with theOrtega-Murillo tyranny.
WE DEMAND THE ORTEGA - MURILLO SPOUSES:
That the right to live freely as a Nicaraguan citizen in her homeland isINMEDIATELY restored to our compañera Ana Quirós. Ana has defended Nicaragua as her homeland indifferent historical moments.
WE URGENTLY CALL THE INTER-AMERICAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS:
To urgently generate a precautionary protection measure for ourcompañera María Hamlin Zúniga, legal representative of CISAS. Maria´s rightsand integrity SHOULD be respected in an integral manner.
WE CALL DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENTS:
To take a political position in defense of human rights and realdemocracy.
To stop the indifference, which makes them accomplices of the regime.
WE CALL MOVEMENTS AND SOCIAL ORGANIZATIONS:
To make statements and demand that ANA QUIRÓS MUST RETURN, in full useof her rights.

Si Andreas
Thanks for your support. People are reviewing the communication ASAP (we already have one prepared for Ana Quiroz and very solid but just yesterday heard the news of Cisas so they are editing it). People are also worried about Maria being in potential danger (as with Ana).
As soon as it is ready and collectively decided, I ‘ll fwd it to you.
>From Quito (our colleagues are in El Salvador- Yasunidos representative, Jaime and Fernanda).

Dear Erika,
i hope you are back safely from Savar in Quito (or do you join the IPHU in Salvador?)
just a quick question: I just heard from my colleagues here in medico that the Nicaraguan Government has now withdrawn the legal status of CISAS, probably in relation to the expulsion of her director Ana Quirós.
Is PHM LA planning to do / write something on this? we would be happy to dissiminate any statement of solidarity from PHM LA or Global
Thank you very much
andreas
