Dear PHM Exchange,
Just said to share some good news on universal health coverage progress from Nigeria
Nigerian government moved towards achieving Universal Health Coverage in Nigeria.
Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF)
BHCPF is the new initiative of the government of Nigeria to achieving Universal Health Coverage.
The backdrop to this initiative:
• National Health Act (NHAct) was approved by the National Assembly in 2013, signed into law by the President in 2014 and gazette in 2016.
• The NHAct stipulates that 1% of consolidated federal revenues be set aside to support the BHCPF; with 50% of the funds allocated to National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) ‘’gateway”, 45% through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) “gateway”, and 5% are set aside to deal with emergencies.
The Federal Ministry of Health shall commence implementation in the 3 States of Abia, Niger and Osun following the readiness level and commitment.
Kudos to all that made this possible.
With kind regards,
