People's Health Day - 7 April

Most of us were involved in action on the 7th of April, World Health Day,
which PHM renamed "PEOPLE’S health day". Any initiative in the struggle for
health that was organised during, or around, the 7th of April can be
strengthened by making the link to the global mobilisation. Sharing what
you are doing and the main struggles in your country and region can also
inspire others.

*An overview of some PHM activities against the commercialization of Health
that took place on 7th of April 2018 can be found below. Is your PHM
activity listed? If not, let us know and we will add it to the next
newsletter ! *

On April 5, a picket rally was held outside the WHO Western Pacific

Universal Health Coverage debate to promote publicly funded health systems,
instead promoting private health insurance. It was also to ”protest the
issue of the government’s neglect of public health facilities, the
deterioration of public health systems and the continuing disregard for the
people’s right to health”. Around 60 doctors, nurses, hospital workers,
community health workers, community people attended. Press release,
background information and pictures.

in a conference convened by the Tunisian forum for economic and social
rights in the city of Sousse. A paragraph supporting the right to health
and defending the public sector appeared in the final declaration of the

organizations (Members of health sector in PNGO) in Gaza called for a
peaceful protest in solidarity with Palestinians and their rights on
Sunday April 8th at 11:00 am, in commemoration of World Health Day which
comes with the theme of Universal Health Coverage this year. The activity
aims at shedding light on the ongoing Israeli violation against

*PHM Paraguay*

Comrade Victoria Peralta from Paraguay tells us that on April 2, as part of

childbirth and also has planned another activity during the following week.

*PHM Argentina*

In the north of Argentina, in Misiones, 2 activities took place: a
presentation of the tomato Murga, with the work: "What we eat when we eat"
that denounces the current system of food production, to corporations who
monopolize the seeds, the poisons and also the medicines like Bayer and
Monsanto. There were discussions on the transgenic foods and urges for
people to choose food from the orchards or organic farms, from the local
producers, considering that the fact of eating is a transcendental
political act.

In addition, in this same framework of World Health Day, on the 21st of
April they will hold a Provincial Health Meeting of the Province of
Missions "laicrimpito" under the theme "Agroecology, Memory, Seed and Path
