We have just published the conflicts of interest resource I mentioned when
we spoke last week. Is this something you could circulate to your COI
networks? Any feedback you have will also be welcome.
The UK Health Forum has published a new Casebook which documents 12
experiences of public-private interactions to tackle diet-related
non-communicable diseases from around the world.
The casebook*, “Public health and the food and drinks industry: The
governance and ethics of interaction. Lessons from research, policy and
practice”* is written by a mix of policy actors, academics, and NGOs. It
includes examples from diverse countries such as Fiji, Brazil, Mexico,
England, Canada and Spain. They focus on the particular challenges of
interactions with corporate actors which manufacture unhealthy and
ultra-processed food and drinks, and identify key lessons for public health
actors.
Next week the WHO Executive Board will discuss a new WHO tool to support
countries to engage with the corporate sector on nutrition programmes. The
casebook contributes to this global discussion by bringing to life some of
the challenges associated with different types of public-private
interactions.
The resource was jointly funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health
Research and International Development Research Centre. It is available
from this link: http://www.ukhealthforum.org.uk/who-we-are/our-work/ukhf-wha
ts-new/?entryid70=58304
A blog introducing the Casebook has been published on The Lancet Global
Health blog: http://globalhealth.thelancet.com/2018/01/19/lessons-interac
tions-between-public-health-and-food-and-drinks-industry
I hope that you will find it useful.
Best wishes
Modi
