*PHM Middle East and North Africa regional meeting.  * A PHM meeting for
the Middle East and North Africa region took place in Tunis the weekend of
18-19 November 2017. Delegates from Egypt, Palestine, Morocco, Lebanon and
Jordan were hosted by PHM Tunisia back to back with a conference on the
right to health that saw civil society and WHO representative discuss
around what has been achieved and what needs to be done to improve health

*Global Health Watch 5 (GHW5) released! *In its fifth edition, the GHW is
widely perceived as the definitive voice for an alternative discourse on
health. This new edition addresses the key challenges facing governments
and health practitioners today, within the context of rapid shifts in
global governance mechanisms and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Like its predecessors, it challenges conventional wisdom while pioneering
innovative new approaches to the field. While the book covers a very large
canvas, this edition has a particular focus on two areas: the recently
announced Sustainable Development Goals; and the rapid transition on global
governance for health from a nation driven process to one that promotes the
influence of private foundations, consultancy firms and corporations. Click

PHM WHO watchers are preparing for to watch the Executive Board meeting
(EB142) end of January 2018. Check the WHO tracker for all relevant
documents and PHM comments on the agenda items. WHO tracker.

*PHM Gabon - Overview of 2017 activities - in FRENCH *
Most of the activities of the People's Movement for Health in Gabon
revolved around the PARCI-MPS-GABON project. The year 2017 was largely
devoted to the implementation of the anti-smoking law and its
implementation texts.
This materialized in particular through the following priority activities:
advocacy and awareness raising, capacity building and institutional support

around the world. Guided by the People's Charter for Health
PHM works on a variety of programmes and activities and is primarily
committed to Comprehensive Primary Health Care and to addressing the
social, economic and environmental determinants of health.

PHM is facing serious cutbacks in funding. We are thus welcoming
contributions/donations from individuals and organizations who believe in
our vision and philosophy to support and sustain our activities. Your
