representatives. There were 2.131 journalists, who have represented 808
vehicles. The Italian press came second, with 153 journalists,
representing 83 vehicles.

Next came Argentina (141 journalists from 73 vehicles) and France (153
journalists from 74 vehicles). The US sent a delegation with 93
journalists, just as much as the Uruguayan delegation, but with a great
number of vehicles: 53 versus 42 from Uruguay.

1.286 workshops were held during the 2003 WSF.

About 650 volunteers worked on the 2003 WSF.

The Youth Camp sheltered around 25 thousand people, from which more
than 19 thousand registered as representatives from 700 groups. (Note
It was especially gratifying to see the interest and willingness of so
many young people to learn about the ways they can become involved in
and participate actively in social movements.)

The 2003 WSF organization had a total direct cost of US$ 3,485
millions, and indirect costs with personal and the lecturer’s room &
board, which were supported by Porto Alegre’s City Hall.

The revenue generated by the Forum is, however, much greater. The
organizers calculate that the 100 thousand participants circulated, at
least, US$ 20 millions, including transport, room & board and eating.
According to some press organizations’ calculations, the amount could
reach up to US$ 50 millions.

HUMAN NEED, A CITIZENSHIP RIGHT AND A PUBLIC GOOD. (This is the
official title translated to English)

The Forum for Advocacy of People’s Health took place in Porto Alegre on
January 20-22. Two hundred and eighty eight persons were duly
registered. These persons are representatives of organizations, social
movements, health departments, health workers and others. At the time
of preparing this report we do not have the participant list. However,
there were people from around the world present at the Forum.
