UNICEF collaborated with the Division of Nutritional Sciences at Cornell
University in order to improve the quality of programming through capacity
building in this area. As a result, this electronic training course on the
basic concepts in infant and young child nutrition, as well as programming
guidance on IYCF, was created.
The course aims to enhance the competencies and build capacity of UNICEF
staff, partners, and counterparts who are involved in IYCF programmes in
developing countries. It includes programme development, programme
implementation, programme evaluation, and other related activities for
improving nutrition and health outcomes of infants and young children. The
online training course consists of three brief introductory presentations,
followed by 12 units, including nine lectures and three case studies, as
described below. The case studies were developed to help participants apply
the training course materials to real world situations. The training units,
with lectures by Cornell, UNICEF and WHO staff and an independent expert,
are as follows:
*
