Dear all,

Looking forward to seeing you in Cape Town at the People's Health Assembly! Health Poverty Action is organising a workshop on Sunday 8th 17.00-19.00, to discuss the issues around discrimination and marginalisation of indigenous people within health systems. If you would like to find out more please join us and please forward this on to others who you think might be interested.
Tackling indigenous marginalisation in health

July 8th, 17.00 hrs. to 19.00 hrs.

Indigenous people or those from other cultural and ethnic minorities are often marginalised from the political and economic processes of their countries and experience social discrimination and racism. As a result they have some of the worst poverty and health outcomes both nationally and globally. This workshop aims to analyse the global and national contexts of indigenous discrimination in health systems. We will hear from indigenous participants about their personal and their communities' experience. The workshop will also discuss solutions towards more equity in health for indigenous peoples and other ethnic minorities. It will provide a space to exchange experiences on ways to promote universal health coverage for indigenous peoples and other ethnic and cultural minorities.

Best wishes,

Sarah

Each year, hundreds of thousands of women die in pregnancy and childbirth in the developing world. A disproportionate number are indigenous women, who lack appropriate healthcare, face discrimination, and are excluded from decision making processes.
