Dear friends,

persons with disabilities are a varied group with different needs - persons who are blind or deaf, persons who have difficulty in moving, persons with disabilities related to convulsions or to leprosy, persons with intellectual disabilities, persons with psychosocial disabilities, and so on. Yet, all of them face barriers in different aspects of their lives. Their basic human rights are often violated and their access to health services is so frequently difficult. Among all the vulnerable population groups - poor, women, ethnic minorities and so on, there are persons with disabilities, who face multiple exclusions. And because they are often hidden, they are forgotten, even there are millions of them.

In 2006 the UN has passed the International Convention on Rights of Persons with disabilities. Individuals and organisations of disabled persons are taking active role in their fight for equality, participation, inclusion and dignity.

In PHA 3 in Cape Town, the workshop on "Persons with disabilities and the Right to Health" is aiming to look at barriers surrounding persons with disabilities that violate their human rights and negate access to health services. It will be held on Sunday 8 July from 14.30 to 16.30 hours. Please join us in this workshop.
