Dear friends,

Are you planning to attend the 3rd People’s Health Assembly in South
Africa this July? A group of us have started organizing 2 PHA workshops on
work and health, and we’d love to connect with anyone interested in
co-organizing or participating.

The workshops will be based on the understanding that 1) all work is work,
regardless of tasks, whether it is paid or not, the legal status of the
work or the person working, or the worker's identity, and 2) that work is a
fundamental social determinant of health. We hope to take advantage of an
extraordinary convergence of activists from around the world to learn about
the work that we all have been doing to support safe and fair work, build a
collective analysis, reflect current realities in the Charter, and explore
ways to work together to create a world where work does not hurt people’s
health.

The initiators of these workshops are starting a “Fair and Healthy Work”
section of the People’s Health Movement in the USA, and have started
meeting in the San Francisco Bay Area. If you are in the Bay Area and would
like to join the section, please write to *dorothy at hesperian.org*.

If you are interested in joining us in organizing the workshops or know
anybody who would be interested, we’d like to hear from you by *Friday,
March 30th*. Please write to dorothy at hesperian.org.

If you think this sounds great but can’t make it to South Africa this
summer, we’d like to invite you to share your experiences, concerns, and
contributions about work and health so we can bring them to the PHA. Please
write to dorothy at hesperian.org.

We’d like to make sure this workshop is diverse, so please forward this
announcement widely and contact me with any questions. Unfortunately, PHM
has very limited funding for scholarships, so participants will be expected
to pay their own way to South Africa.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Dorothy
