With the release this summer of the Secretary General’s follow-up
report<http://www.un.org/ga/search/view_doc.asp?symbol=A/66/126>to the
2010 MDG Summit, discussions on the Post-2015 agenda have begun.
Since their formulation, the MDGs have helped to define a common framework
of priorities. However, the MDGs were developed over 10 years ago and
significant shifts have occurred in the economic, political and
environmental landscape that should inform any successor framework for the
MDGs. While there is no trade-off between the current activities to
accelerate progress on the MDGs, it is crucial we start a dialogue to
define a vision of the future world we want to live in. The UN has a
critical role to play in building coalitions and continuing its
intellectual leadership. ****

As a part of these efforts a project has been initiated through the UNDG
MDG Task Force on Building the Post-2015 Development Agenda with five core
outputs identified:****

** **

· supporting national and local consultation processes****

· convening global and regional meetings on the post 2015
development agenda****

· engaging in discussions and dialogues with partners****

· producing discussion and position papers on the post 2015
development agenda ****

· taking advantage of the opportunities provided by global social
networks and mobile technologies****

Our intention is to ensure that the process is based on what we have
learned from the MDGs, addresses the new and emerging issues, and is an
inclusive, balanced, bottom-up and broad dialogue. Discussion on any goals
or targets must leverage the knowledge from the country level and be in
touch with the real and emerging challenges. Key in this process is
capturing the voice and ideas of youth, the under-represented, the poor and
vulnerable.****

To facilitate the creation of guidelines for national consultations we are
seeking feedback on similar (including non-MDG related) consultations that
have been convened at the national, regional, municipal and community
levels engaging partners both inside and outside of the UN system - for
example in preparation for PRSPs or National Development Plans.
