‘Responding to emergencies’ is the focus of this new issue of Health
Exchange. Practitioners have contributed articles about their work in
different countries and contexts including Haiti, Somaliland, Liberia, and
the Democratic Republic of Congo. Topics range from building partnerships,
strengthening health systems and local capacity, disaster preparedness,
disability, mental health, and urban environments. At the global level,
articles look at the cluster approach and reforming systems.
Egbert Sondorp from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, who
wrote the introductory article says, “The collection of papers in this issue
provides a fascinating insight into many aspects of humanitarian health work
that involves so much more than just first aid. While lessons have been
learned over the years, still more learning is needed.”
Health Exchange is an online magazine for health practitioners and other
professionals working on health in developing countries.
