Data challenges in estimating the HDI: The cases of Cuba, Palau and the
Occupied Palestinian Territory

There are many statistical and methodological challenges in estimating the
annual Human Development Index (HDI). The goal of the Human Development
Report has always been to make national HDI coverage as extensive as
possible, based on a common and consistent set of indicators for the HDI's
health, education and income dimensions.

In recent months the Human Development Report Office has been working with
national and international statistical authorities to expand the range of
national indicators available to calculate the HDI, using methods we
describe here and, in greater technical detail, in a forthcoming Human
Development Research Paper. As a result, we are now able to show how Cuba,
Palau and the Occupied Palestinian Territory would have been ranked in the
2010 HDI had these figures then been available. Read

Desafíos estadísticos para calcular el IDH: Los casos de Cuba, Palau y el
Territorio Ocupado Palestino

Cada año, surgen muchos desafíos estadísticos y metodológicos a la hora de
calcular el Índice de Desarrollo Humano (IDH). El objetivo del Informe sobre
Desarrollo Humano ha sido siempre intentar que el IDH cubra el mayor número
de países posible, con base en un conjunto común y consistente de
indicadores para las dimensiones de salud, educación e ingresos del IDH.

En los últimos meses, la Oficina del Informe sobre Desarrollo Humano ha
estado trabajando con autoridades nacionales e internacionales del campo de
las estadísticas con el fin de ampliar el rango de indicadores nacionales
disponibles para calcular el IDH, utilizando métodos que describimos a
continuación y que serán incluidos con mayor detalle técnico en una nueva
"Human Development Research Paper” que se publicará en este sitio
