Subject: Nomination for the Right Livelihood Award
Dear Mr Uexkull,
I take this opportunity to propose the name of Dr Binayak Sen, a doctor of
the poorest, and human rights worker, currently serving life imprisonment
and lodged in Raipur Central Jail, India, for the Right Livelihood Award.
A brilliant student and award winning doctor, his life has been spent in the
service of the poorest of the poor, the indigenous peoples of central india,
who have been neglected and exploited by the local elite and the state.
Now he is behind the bars for life on account of the state's vindictive
action to punish him for his fearless fight for human rights of the poor and
marginalised facing armed repressions of the state .
The Award for Dr. Sen at this stage would be a fitting tribute to his
lifelong service and intrepid fight for human rights and a befitting
response to the repressive state action putting him behind the bars and may
even help his early release.
His life sketch is available at <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binayak_Sen>.
Regards,
Adv Kamayani Bali Mahabal
