 *As you are aware December 10, 2010 marks the second anniversary of the
adoption of the Optional Protocol.  This date offers a good opportunity to
reiterate our call for ratification of this mechanism to countries around
the world. On this occasion, we encourage you to contact your government and
make a call for ratification/accession.  So far 3 countries have ratified
the Protocol, so we need 7 more ratifications for it to enter into force and
many more to ensure it lives up to its potential.   *

*Model letters and press releases to facilitate this action are available
from the address above.   A statement issued by the NGO Coalition which you
can include in your communication with your State if you think this will
strengthen your action is also available on request.*

*We ask you to please let us know if you are able to take any action or if
you have any comments or need more information.  *

*We thank you in advance for any action you are able to take in support of
this mechanism.  Once the protocol enters into force, it will close a gap in
international human rights law and ensure access to justice to victims of
ESCR violations at the international level and strengthen national systems
to do the same.*
