*TRAINING OPPORTUNITY / EQUITAS / CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR OUR ANNUAL
INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS TRAINING PROGRAM (IHRTP), 05-24 JUNE 2011:* In
its 32nd year, the goal of the IHRTP is to strengthen the capacity of human
rights organizations to undertake effective human rights education efforts
aimed at building a global culture of human rights. The IHRTP is intended
for human rights workers and educators from non-governmental organizations,
National Human Rights Institutions, government bodies and educational
institutions. The three-week program is an opportunity to meet more than 120
participants from around the world and engage in a process of mutual
teaching and learning. ‘This training program is an important Canadian
contribution to the spread of human rights and democratic principles around

*NHRI FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM / OHCHR:* Organized by the National Institutions
and Regional Mechanisms Section of OHCHR, the fellowship program aims to
give staff members of NHRIs from all over the world a better understanding
and appreciation of the international human rights system. The Fellow will
gain knowledge and working level experience with the UN human rights system
(including the treaty body system, the Human Rights Council, the Universal
Periodic Review and Special Procedures), OHCHR’s work with and for NHRIs and
technical and substantive issues relating to NHRIs. It is expected that the
Fellow will return to his / her NHRI and thereby strengthen the
organization’s capacity in international human rights. *Deadline for

Defenders founded in Dublin in 2001 aims to protect human rights defenders
at risk. It offers its fellowships to help human rights defenders not only

*FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY / 2011 OAK FELLOWSHIP: POVERTY AND HUMAN RIGHTS*:
The Oak Institute for the Study of International Human Rights at Colby
College announced a call for applications for the 2011 Oak Fellowship,
seeking one front-line human rights activist working outside of the US who
is working on problems caused by or associated with poverty. The 2011 Oak
Fellow will work to promote human rights threatened by poverty including:
the right to work in safe conditions and earn and adequate and stable
income; access to basic food and shelter; freedom from forced evictions;
access to adequate health care and medical attention; access to basic
services and infrastructure; the right to a healthy and safe living
environment, including access to clean drinking water; access to education;
freedom from discrimination based on class or income. *Deadline for

*FUNDING / OSI DISABILITY RIGHTS INITIATIVE: *OSI Disability Rights
Initiative seeks to address discrimination against people with disabilities
and promote their inclusion in society by supporting a rights-based approach
to disability. Building on the momentum and opportunity created by the UN
Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the initiative
supports civil society to build networks and mobilize campaigns that advance
disability rights through advocacy for ratification and for implementation
of this new human rights instrument. The program provides funding for
national and global advocacy efforts that galvanize constituencies and
engage new partners to develop rights-based strategies to implement the

*EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY / MASTER OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND DEMOCRATISATION (ASIA
PACIFIC) (MHRD):* Applications are now being accepted for study and
scholarships for the MHRD  which is a  unique Master degree program in which
students undertake a foundational semester of study in Sydney and then study
in one of four partner universities in Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal or Sri
Lanka. Graduates  have both the ability to undertake independent scholarly
research and put their academic understanding and practical experience to
use in real situations.  34 scholarships will be offered to outstanding
applicants from across the Asia Pacific region made possible with the
support of a significant grant from the European Commission. Deadline for
applications is: 30 April 2011 and deadline for applications for the

*FUNDING OPPORTUNITY / GRANTS FOR EMPOWERMENT OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES*:
The ABILIS Foundation provides grants ranging from EURO 500 to 10,000 for
projects initiated by organizations that are run by persons who have a
disability. The ABILIS Foundation supports activities that contribute toward
equal opportunities for people with disabilities in society through human
rights, independent living and economic self-sufficiency. Special priority
is given to projects advocating for human rights of people with disabilities
and to activities developed and implemented by women with disabilities. *Read
