MEDICC Review: The International Journal of Cuban Health & Medicine

New issue now online: Innovating for Global Health Equity

The topics: an overview of the Global Forum for Health Research, Forum 2009,
overcoming obstacles to better research on the social determinants of health,
moving beyond Open Access towards open data, plus exploration of South-South
collaboration in health biotechnology. Also in this issue: stroke and risk
factors in older Cuban adults and Cuban recombinant erithropoyetin for anemia in
pediatric cancer patients.

“What we are addressing is the false dichotomy between high-tech health care
(often reserved for elites) and low-tech primary health care (for the broad
population). The key is developing both to serve everyone,” Dr José Miyar, Cuban
Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment, in a Special Article with
his remarks from the plenary session of Forum 2009: Innovating for the Health of
All.

Plus: Once the Earth Stood Still (Part II): Cuban Rehabilitation Services in
Haiti, a special report from MEDICC Review’s senior editor on assignment in
Port-au-Prince, on Cuban medical teams addressing mental health issues in
post-earthquake Haiti.

MEDICC Reviewonlineis an open-access peer-reviewed journal. The entire contents
of current and past issues may be freely viewed and downloaded at
