The study states unequivocally that discrimination against women leads to
preventable
deaths and injuries in pregnancy and childbirth, and that this is a matter
of human
rights. Each year, hundreds of thousands of women and girls die and millions
more
become disabled as a result. A human rights-based approach is essential to
addressing
this serious global problem.
