MEDICC Review: The International
Journal of Cuban Health & Medicine

New issue now online: Research,
Assessment & Action for Health

This issue of MEDICC Review covers
important Cuban strategies for achieving health equity, including Cuba’s
response to the 2009 A(N1H1) influenza pandemic. Two articles report on recent
cancer research for public health application: one on development of a novel therapeutic
lung cancer vaccine; the other on prognostic factors in breast cancer in Cuban
women. Other topics include diagnostic delay in lung cancer patients,
application of a tissue adhesive to relieve dental pain, community involvement
in dengue vector control, and the importance of sustained intersectoral action.

Also in this issue:Breaking
the Sound Barrier: Cuba’s Cochlear Implant Program

“Health strategies need reorientationto
broaden intersectoral action beyond its use in crises or campaigns such as
disaster preparedness, vaccination drives, and epidemic situations like the
recent spread of H1N1 influenza. We must stop thinking of intersectorality as a
way to solve immediate problems, but instead as a pro active strategy for
progressively achieving set objectives aimed at improving the quality of life
of individuals and populations.” Pastor Castell-Florit, Director, National
School of Public Health, in MEDICC Review.
