*20th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion**,

* *11-15 July 2010, Geneva, Switzerland*

Website: http://www.iuhpeconference.net/index.php

*Health Promotion Switzerland serves as Co-Chair of the Organising
Committee

*

The aim is to reach beyond the public health and health promotion sector and
to provide a great opportunity to facilitate and advance the work for health
promotion and disease prevention in the context of sustainable development.

 *Thematic Scope*

In a globalised world, the dynamics of modernization and urbanization pose
major challenges for ecological sustainability and equitable, sustainable
health development. Competition for resources and environmental threats
erode social solidarity and exacerbate existing social inequalities, within
and across countries.

Sustainable improvement of health and well being in this context requires
strengthened and expanded partnerships that go beyond the health sector,
skilled advocacy, and evidence-based and ethically sound practice and
policy. The Conference will examine ways to achieve healthy people and
healthy environments.

 *Core issues*

The conference will examine the problems of the following issues and
possible solutions:

· *Sustainable environment and health*
- What are the interlinkages between urbanization, environmental
degradation, environmental justice and health development?

· *Equitable and sustainable health development
*- Can equity and sustainable development be achieved through health
promotion action on societal determinants?

· *Participatory governance*
- What local and global partnerships do we need to strengthen health and
sustainable development?
