PROJECT MANAGER

SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH, UWC, 1-Year contract

 

The School of Public Health at the University of the Western Cape has an international reputation as a leading research and teaching institution in Public Health. It provides health and welfare personnel from developing countries with the opportunity to enhance their capacity to build and strengthen the health sector in their countries. Its open learning post-graduate programme, offering multiple entry and exits points, is unique in Southern Africa. Its educational and research activities focus on the implementation of district health systems.

The School is involved in a number of large- and small-scale research projects funded by external donors and is continuously raising money for research from external sources. It is presently in the process of setting up a unit within the School which will co-ordinate the management of these projects, including fundraising, logistical support and report-writing.

The School is looking for a manager to head this unit:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management of the unit; co-ordinate the activities of all projects and contracts; assist academics with proposal and report-writing, monitoring and exploring funding opportunities.

He or she will report to the Director of the school, collaborate with academic project leaders and will supervise three administrative officers, including a financial officer.

To qualify for this post you should have the following:

·  Excellent writing skills, with a focus on proposal and report writing.

·  At least five years experience with project work, preferably in a field related to public health.

·  Some fund-raising experience and experience of engagement with external funders.
