Sama has developed a detailed critique of the Draft Assisted Reproductive
Technologies Bill drafted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
(MOHFW) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). They have tried
to build/generate a campaign around ARTs demanding certain modifications in
the document. A detailed perusal of the document by Sama has revealed the
narrow approach behind the Bill– it does not address the health concerns and
ensure a safe delivery of these procedures adequately. It seems to promote
concepts like medical tourism, commercial surrogacy and other commercial
interests of the providers.
