Huairou Commission at the UN Commission on the Status of Women Network
Members bring grassroots perspectives and priorities on Financing for
Women's Empowerment and Equality

From February 25-March 7, representatives of 5 Member Networks of the
Huairou Commission will participate in the Commission on the Status of Women
to ensure that grassroots women's perspectives and priorities are at the
forefront of these discussions on Women's Economic Empowerment and Financing
for Women's Equality - the theme of this year's CSW.

On February 27, the Huairou Commission, GROOTS International and the UNDP
Gender Unit co-sponsor a workshop, Whose Agenda Counts? Grassroots Women set
Financing and Policy Priorities to Realize Pro-Poor Equality and
Empowerment<http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001vNl7n_KBqttz0DXrlr10FzYsBvg-RKOhJRgj9OaIXll6cq5qy2I4bwPtKVRAog2ymOgg22wZP-PljOHmQMwvM8lhjy6cLZmrYUg4hqekbICXyhplT1g6dd9ZMJTawhoJQ4RStULQzh87_YKugRJDvk2kZ2dV1jNWdrdAWKhsqlA=>.
The workshop will address the ability of broad gender mainstreaming and
gender equality approaches to deliver tangible outcomes for poor women. The
session will focus on reallocating and generating new investments that
sustain poor women's leadership in the gender equality movement. Grassroots
community leaders, NGOs, development practitioners, donors and governments
will explore how new partnerships, priority setting and resource allocation
mechanisms can reshape financing for women's empowerment.

On Thursday, February 28, the Huairou Commission, COHRE, FAO, UNDP, UNIFEM,
Action Aid, the Global Coalition on Women and AIDS, Human Rights Watch and
the International Centre for Research on Women present Securing Women's
Housing, Land and Property Rights in the Struggle Against HIV and
AIDS"<http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001vNl7n_KBqtvcUDwmsYGbgMRwZAPZcWtgxPKaQjB5zqE9ZKtVtxixCVKva8m_Taq4_dQfk1HA-_qnx35tTBl0kwQWt3hbbIxW3xGsFfkzA0xTdisvYbCqLk8hD7GQm7Gu-YjqPLJxmFk1kFhTQLzEblg9JcgE4fqy>.
This panel discussion will draw clear connections between women's housing,
land and property rights and the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and will focus on
creative strategies that are being used on the ground to protect and promote
women's housing rights generally, as well as specifically within the
HIV/AIDS context.

In addition to these workshops, Huairou members will participate in
strategic dialogues and panel discussions on Women's Land and Inheritance
Rights and Home-Based Care. Two representatives will also participate in the
Global Strategy Meeting for Gender Equality Architecture at the UN organized
by WEDO and the Center for Women's Global Leadership.

Participating Member Networks are: FEMUM, GROOTS International, the
International Council of Women, Latin American Women and Habitat Network and
the Women and Peace Network.
